A few words before you start

Welcome to the website! I am grateful for the opportunity to share it with you, including some things about painful thinking and feeling that I’ve learned from personal experience, through formal education, training, and research, as a former police officer, and from having the honor and privilege of listening to the life and work stories of many workforce professionals. These individuals were willing to tell wholeheartedly what was on their minds to someone they thought deserved to be told. That’s what I call couraging. It inspired me to create this educational website and pay forward what I’ve learned.

In a nutshell, I’ve learned that painful thoughts and feelings in life are not dangerous. They can’t harm us, like punch us in the face. They are worth having because they remind us of things we care about. The more we notice what matters to us in them, the less distress we tend to feel when they show up. We can experience painful thoughts and feelings in life and still do what it takes to live our values. I am happy to share with you what I’ve learned in the service of helping you learn how to live with more purpose and vitality guided by your values.

What you’ll learn in the education is a rapid and effective way, based on science, to experience and hold painful thoughts and feelings wherever you are, freeing you to take steps toward living a meaningful and fulfilling life. Over the years of working with workforce professionals, I have observed them express wanting this education earlier in their lives to help them ride out life’s natural ups and downs.

At times during the training, I will use fictional stories about people, such as John, Nurse Betty, or Officer Pete, to ground the education and exercises to illustrate key points. Although fictional, the stories are grounded in what I’ve learned in my personal and police experiences and work with workforce professionals over time and across different settings. I’ve taken reasonable steps to remove, change, and disguise any personally identifiable information and combined details, so there are no means of re-identification.

Thank you once again for visiting the website. I hope you find the education helpful as you engage with the material to facilitate your growth and understanding and navigate living a richer, fuller, more meaningful life.
